Problem Patterns is a feminist queerpunk band from Belfast, Northern Ireland, formed in 2018. The group consists of four members—Beverley Boal, Bethany Crooks, Ciara King, and Alanah Smith—who interchange roles and instruments to ensure each member's voice is represented. Their music is characterized by energetic punk influences and addresses themes of social justice, identity, and community. In June 2024, Problem Patterns released the single "I Think You Should Leave". The song serves as a response to a journalist's negative portrayal of Northern Ireland, expressing the band's commitment to fostering inclusive spaces within their home city of Belfast. The lyrics reflect a complex relationship with their hometown, acknowledging its challenges while emphasizing the importance of community and positive change. The accompanying music video, directed by the band and edited by Alanah Smith, visually complements the song's themes by showcasing various locations in Belfast, highlighting the city's vibrant culture and the band's connection to it. "I Think You Should Leave" exemplifies Problem Patterns' dedication to addressing societal issues through their music, reinforcing their role as a significant voice in the contemporary punk scene.
