Lips Speak Louder is a Nashville-based alternative rock duo formed in late 2023, consisting of Rachel Brandsness (guitarist and vocalist) and Angela Lese (drummer and vocalist). Their music blends hooky pop melodies with blistering guitar riffs and dynamic drumming, drawing inspiration from 1990s and early 2000s influences such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Queens of the Stone Age, Garbage, Bully, and The Killers. Their single "Dog Days of Summer," released on October 25, 2024, is the third track from their forthcoming debut album. The song delves into themes of self-realization and breaking free from societal expectations. Brandsness describes it as a deeply personal and vulnerable piece about the realization of making oneself small to avoid upsetting the status quo and the journey toward rejecting that unsustainable way of living. The arrangement mirrors this emotional progression, starting with a minimalist opening and building to a powerful crescendo, reflecting the cathartic release of pent-up emotions.
