Music of the Day: Fredy Guzman - Live Free

Fredy Guzman was born in the late eighties in Lima, Peru. He began playing violin at age five and soon after gave recitals at Newton College leaving his teachers impressed. After a few years, he moved onto mandolin and then to guitar, with which he excelled. In 2007, Fredy won a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston and during his four years at Berklee, he studied under Tim Miller, David Gilmore and Ed Tomassi. In 2012, Fredy moved to New York City where he met his mentor Lionel Loueke. In 2014, Fredy recorded his first album, titled ‘Waijazz’ co-produced by Lionel Loueke and with special guests such as George Garzone, Oscar Stagnaro and Terreon Gully. ‘Waijazz’ has arrangements of traditional songs from the Andes with jazz improvisation and harmony. Fredy now lives in Peru, where he has been investigating Peruvian music for over four years, constantly traveling around the Andes and the coast side of Peru. In 2018, he traveled to Russia to perform at World Cup events along with a scissor dancer and has been interviewed on Univisión, Telemundo and different Peruvian national T.V channels. He looks forward to sharing Peruvian music with the world.
